Summer on the Hub with Brighter Girls is the Shine Bright Girls Hub  (SBGH) Summer Program, a safe space and online learning girl community for girls ages 13 -16. Our girls say signing them up for this program is one of the best things their mums have ever done. At SBGH, we focus on life skills education, mentoring and holding important conversations and engagements critical to girls becoming their highest version and being equipped for the real world.

I was privileged to attend the Brighter Girls Summer program and it was one of the best decisions my parents have ever made for me. I learned how to interact with people irrespective of their background, culture or race. We had mentors and facilitators from across the globe; Australia, Canada, the USA, UK and Nigeria. I also learned about skincare, maintaining emotional and mental well-being, how to handle a toxic relationship and so many things that a lot of teenagers are not exposed to. I am thankful to the organiser who put this together for this lifelong learning.

It was a very exciting and very enlightening experience. I have made new friends and l learned a lot, I got to meet new people and I was able to share my opinions and hear other people’s opinions. When I first came to the Hub, I was not so shy, but I didn't want to contribute or say anything but hearing other people contribute as often as they did make me feel its normal or not that bad to also contribute. So it has given me the confidence to share my own point of view or my own opinion on things.

Why your teen should attend

As your teen goes through adolescence, she comes into her own, finding who she is and already making critical decisions able to influence her life’s trajectory. Our goal is to give her the right skills, tools, and support to make healthy and value-based choices.

Evidence-based surveys also imply that schools do not teach the non-cognitive skills employers need in the workplace or those required to thrive in the real world. Why wait for a child to struggle or make avoidable mistakes in the future when she can learn and practice these critical life skills now. Our goal is to bridge this gap and the Summer on the Hub will ensure this.

How Summer on the Hub will run

4 weeks of Summer on the Hub

3 days of online classes weekly

Each class will last over 45 mins-90mis

2 in- person classes for hang out/mentor session

10 days at Intern organisation (optional)

Free days for reflection, practice and getting assignments done.
