The ages 10 and 13 are your pre-teen’s first independent and most crucial years. These years herald the beginning of significant changes in her body, brain, and mind.
These changes can inspire curiosity and anxiety in some pre-teens, especially if they do not know what to expect or what is normal. At this time or the onset of puberty, some children question their identity and values

While you still make the big decisions for your child, the simple everyday choices that shape them are now up to them, especially if they are far away from home. As a Teens Expert and Coach of over 15 years, girls tell me what goes on in school, in the bathroom, online, and on their phones, where no one sees but them and their friends.
Do you remember telling your mum or dad everything that happened in your school or classroom when you were a teen?
Maybe not. With your busy schedule, it’s even more challenging.
The girls don’t say it all as well. But trust me, a lot happens that may shock you.
One day, as I sat with the girls in our Girls Circles program at Brighter Girls, they started gisting me about what happens in their schools and homes.
I honestly was disturbed at how much pre-teens were already exposed to, which led me to research the impact and influence of secondary school on young intakes.
I realised that the secondary is different from the safe space that primary school or the home gives our kids. Yet, there are no conscious tools provided to our pre-teens to navigate their new space and experience.
Apart from changes in their bodies, most pre-teens experience their first cases of being bullied, friendship drama, unhealthy competition, exposure to sexually explicit words, context or situation, and more.
Many girls say, ‘I found out about lesbianism and pornography in my first year in secondary school, but I didn’t share it with my parents.
I’ve also found many parents struggle down the line with their teenage daughters because they missed the pre-teenage transitional phase and haven’t learnt how to meet their pre-teen’s needs.
We want to make the journey easier for them and you, so we built the ’10 going on 13′ Course for girls (call us if you’re raising boys).
10 going on 13 isn’t just a confidence workshop; it is a dive into a phase of your child’s life and delivers over ten core skills such as Self Awareness, Confidence, Decision-Making Skills, Authenticity, Friendship Skills, Building Boundaries, Emotional Intelligence, personal agency, time management and more.
It’s not a do it on your own program; we really care about your pre-teen and our program design guarantees a personal experience, safe space where your daughter is called by her name in class, given the opportunity to express herself and also engage with her peers without judgement and fear.
It’s not just child centred, it is you centred. We understand the importance of your voice and role in your pre-teen’s life at this stage and our program design prioritizes
parent-daughter engagement. Through the duration of the course, you will get assignments that help you stay engaged with your pre-teen, so you can continue to support.
You will also get personal feedback about your teen at the end of the program. Many parents are pleasantly shocked about how detailed and apt our feedback is and
even more the support they get afterwards
My name is Adefolashade, called Fola for short and I am the Lead Coach and Founder of Brighter Girls Life Initiative. I am a US Certified Girl Empowerment Coach, Trained Youth Mentor and a member of the Women Empowering Girls Network (WEGN), Dallas, Texas, USA and Certified in Youth First Aid Mental Health USA.
I’m certified to teach the “Girl Meets World curriculum “of the Girl Leadership Inc taught at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, South Africa.
My dream to work with girls started as a teen myself which led me to speak to girls in secondary schools within my community and went on to co-found a Girl organisation in university where I organised programs centred on faith and girl empowerment. I have worked in the teen space for over 20 years and with thousands of girls in different capacities.
I was a certified ‘good girl’ growing up as a teen, but got the rude shock while ‘adulting’ as I realized I didn’t have the tools I needed to navigate through real life and make the right decisions for me.
Tools give you the ‘what, why and how’ and with that, you can navigate different situations.
I know a lot of parents like the good girl/child who obeys rules, makes terrific grades and generally never troubles them, but that is not the same with a child who has the tools, informed, consciously on a journey of growth, change and is engaging requisite tools as he or she makes decisions or choices.
This is where I come in
I use the power and effectiveness of tools, stories, play and safe spaces to engage teens, so they are well-informed, equipped and ready to live consciously. This doesn’t make them perfect, but makes them live awake and deliberate as they make choices through their adolescence years. Through my classes, your pre-teens will meet themselves, get the right tools which are the bedrock of other learnings they will experience.
10 going on 13 is a self-paced and group coaching course. Students will have access to self-paced courses and can attend the community supportive calls. including aster course support calls.
All classes are online.
Yes, courses are for boys and girls. However, some classes are separated into single gender for more emphasis and support. Call 0809 922 2234. We hold sacred our promise of safe spaces and engagements. We understand how diverse the social needs of boys and girls differ and therefore choose to hold spaces that make girls engage wholly. The same approach is engaged in boys-only class
